SUPERB CHRISTOFLE TEAPOT CA 1886 QUITE LOVELY SHAPE Picture(s) and Description:

Beautiful Christofle Teapot with a Fabulous Shape and Excellent Silvering! About 125 Years Old - Made in 1885-1886 Up for bids is a gleaming Christofle teapot in a wonderful shape that so many collectors find irresistible. It is round looking down from above, yet oval from the sides. It has a classic design, with a pipe-like band around its 'waist' continuing on the spout, and a smoothly looped handle. The Christofle marks were used by Christofle between 1862 and 1935 (oval in a rectangular cartouche with no horizontal marks). The ordinal number of this piece is 1219493, and according to a paper on Christofle datemarks*, this gives us a more specific date of manufacture between late 1885 and 1886. This lovely teapot measures about 9-1/2" handle-to-spout and 4-3/4" high to the top of the finial. It has wonderful silvering both inside and out, some light scratches and just a couple of blemishes/tiny indentations. The structure is excellent: it sits flat on the table, and the handle, spout, hinge, finial, and pedestal are well-attached. There are no insulators - the teapot is definitely useable without them - and the handles wiggles just a smidge. What a fantastic addition this will make to your Christofle or teapot collection - and quite a conversation piece, too, if you use it at your table! Please see the pictures so you can assess the condition for yourself, and eBay message me with any questions; I'm happy to answer them. Marked on the underside of the teapot: Oval with scales (inside a rectangular cartouche) '2' '4' (each inside a square cartouche) 'CHRISTOFLE' (inside a rectangular cartouche) 1219493 '8' sideways To the left: 'METAL BLANC' 'C C' (inside a diamond cartouche) * Thanks to Professor David N.
