The Cooler even retains it's original fitted, Hand Blown Glass Liner, which I find amazing to be still intact. The Cooler is a great design, sitting on three Cannon Ball feet so the cold and condensation do not mar your fine furniture, making it very practical for modern use. The Cooler is also a great size for modern use measuring approx 9" tall overall by approx 6" wide across the handles and 4" wide across the opening, I have shown it in one of the photos with a modern Wine Bottle, which is not included obviously. The Cooler is fully marked on the bottom JG S for the fine period Silversmiths John Gilbert & Sons of Sheffield England and EPNS which I know is a very desirable mark for the most advanced English Silver Plate collectors. John Gilbert was in business from 1812 on, but I would say this piece is more circa 1890 judging by the beautiful Art Nouveau design. Overall the Cooler is in excellent condition with no plate loss, dents, cracks or repairs, even to the glass liner, though the liner does show discoloration as seen in the photos, which does not bother me, since it is hidden inside the cooler anyway. This would make a grand statement on any dining table and you could also use it as a Vase for Roses or fresh flowers, I am sure you friends are going to be more than a little jealous !
